Idaho Falls Masters
The Idaho Falls Piranha Masters swim team is for anybody from 18-118 years of age, who wants to workout in the pool. The workouts are for everybody. You don’t have to already be a good swimmer to join. We will all be at different levels. We will all have different goals. Some of us want to get fast & compete. Some just want to stay in shape. Some want smoother, leaner muscles, etc. You can stay in the water as short or as long as you want. You can “modify” the workout, if needed. For example, if the coach says to swim 5 x 100 yards, feel free to do 5 x 50 yards. Please come try a workout!
At the moment, there is no cost to swim with the masters, other than paying the pool to swim laps. If you want to compete, however, you must join USMS (see below). To join our team, just come to a workout. Introduce yourself and swim with us! It’s that easy.
There are a number of meets throughout the year in which we can compete. Some are held at our pool, Lava Hot Springs, and Jackson, WY. The farthest anyone has travelled, so far, is Missoula, MT.
In order to compete in swim races, you must be a member of “US Masters Swimming” (USMS). If you are training for triathlons and won’t be at any dedicated swim meets, you don’t have to join. If you just like to swim, you also don’t have to join. Once you are a member of USMS, anywhere you go in the US, if there is a master’s swim team, you can swim with them.
You can join USMS online athttp://www.usms.org/reg/. If you can't join online, you can contact this lady, who will send you a form.
The Snake River LMSC Registrar is:
1626 Williams St
Boise, ID 83706-3576 208-338-5287 email: email@example.com
The cost for USMS membership is $42.00 ($27 for national + $15 for our region). When it asks which team you are on, say “Idaho Falls Masters”.
For now, Winter, 2012, the workouts will be held**:
Monday, Wed. & Fri. mornings: 5:30 – 7:30 AM
Tues. and Thus.: 5:30 – 6:30 AM - beginner’s stroke workshop
Saturday 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
The beginner’s stroke workshop is just as it sounds. A coach will work with swimmers to improve technique and build endurance. This can be the first step for those unsure about joining masters.
** The pool schedule changes constantly, so ours must, too. To be sure of the current schedule, please contact Robin (below).
